Borrowed this book from local library, total waste of time, too much new-age drivel. Major problems: too much fluff-filler, no new revelations, dated material, poorly written / organized. Here's a summary of everything you need to know about keeping your brain healthy:1. Exercise2. Get at least 8 hrs/dy of uninterrupted sleep.3. Avoid alcohol, sugar, smoking and recreational drugs.4. Eat well-balanced meals with plenty of fruits & veggies.5. Don't be sad, BE HAPPY!!6. Keep your mind busy.There, that's it! Wasn't that totally earthshaking ? I'm guess all of you already knew this stuff.Talk about filler, I counted 76 pages dedicated to recipes and fitness exercises. Who knew that Persian Herb Omelets and Strawberry Pancakes slow down ageing in the brain? At least half of the book deals with Alzheimer Disease (AD). Sorry, but all the organic veggies in the world can't stop or cure AD, its largely genetic. But there IS solid evidence that exercise, even mild exercise like daily walking, can dramatically slow down the onset of the disease and blunt some of its worst characteristics. This has been known since the late 90's. It's also a well-known fact that otherwise healthy elderly people suddenly confined to bed for a just a few weeks (say, from a fractured hip), show early onset of dementia. Once again, a phenomenon identified decades ago.My guess is if you have an interested in the subject, chances are you already know everything in this book and probably looking for more advanced material and results from the latest research. You won't find it here.

Ageless Brain is an easily read description of what you "can do" to minimize the risks of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, and what you can do is meaningful. The book does not say or suggest "do these things, and you won't get Alzheimer's." Here is an instructive excerpt: "...carrying the gene [APOE-e4] does not make getting Alzheimer's a done deal. Some people who carry APOE-e4 never develop Alzheimer's, while some who don't get the disease anyway....[W]hile you can't change your genes, you can change your lifestyle." (p. 15). The book does inform (e.g., citing and summarizing many, many studies), does lay out clear, actionable steps, and does motivate you to benefit your brain as well as related health areas (e.g., cardiovascular, blood sugar). For example, Alzheimer's risk increases following certain brain injuries, which often result from a fall. Ageless Brain explains this (and the importance of strength training) and includes (in an Appendix on strength training) detailed descriptions with photos of exercises that support balance. That is a mere sliver of wise advice this book delivers.One reviewer took issue with the pages dedicated to recipes. I might counter by mentioning the thirty pages (in small print!) of endnotes the book includes. My point is this book delivers on research (and cites the research, if you want to know more), while remaining an easy read. I didn't view the recipes as "padding" but as one more effort to give the reader somewhere to start (some of us start with exercise or stress relief, others start with nutrition -- the point is to start).As a final note, I found this book at my library. I am writing this review as I now order my own copy of Ageless Brain because this is a resource to which I'll return.
